handy\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>The update covers additions as well as corrections and smaller refinements.<br \/>\n<br \/><\/br><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<li>The additions include more waterways in various regions: the Rhine from Bonn until Mainz; the Main between Mainz and Frankfurt; the Vistula delta between Gda\u0144sk, Grudzi\u0105dz and Elbl\u0105g; the Daugava between Riga and Polatsk; the Msta between Veliky Novgorod and Vyshny Volochyok.\n<li>For the former Duchy of Pomerania all towns before 1650 and the routes connecting them have been added.\n<li>For the Netherlands the number of places has increased, especially fairs, tolls, ferries and bridges.\n<li>Thanks to our partners of Erfgoed Brabant, a special focus was put on the modern province of Noord-Brabant.<br \/>\nFor Denmark the information for some ferries and settlements have been added and the documentation for the Danish part is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landesgeschichte.uni-goettingen.de\/handelsstrassen\/documentation\/Viabundus_Documentation%20DK.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">available<\/a>.<\/p>\n<li>We reviewed the roads in Hessen (GER) based on the map of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lagis-hessen.de\/de\/subjects\/idrec\/sn\/ga\/id\/54\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Geschichtlicher Atlas von Hessen<\/a> and in Greater Poland and the Polish Crown, based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/data.atlasfontium.pl\/search\/?limit=100&#038;offset=0&#038;category__identifier__in=transportation\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Historical Atlas of Poland<\/a>.\n<li>From this version on we use a background map as standard, which has been modified to roughly depict the topography of around 1500.\n<li>The state of research in the various regions covered by Viabundus can now be shown as a separate layer on the map.\n<li>A \u201cReady\u201d field in the Edges data model now allows an easier identification of edges that are reliable, because they have been reviewed and corrected for historical accuracy.<\/li>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery galleryid-1123 gallery-columns-3 situation\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nViabundus Applied \u2013 where do we go from here?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Viabundus has been around for more than a year now and it may be rightfully asked what \u2013 if any \u2013 research has been undertaken with the data we released into the world. With this thought in mind we held our second update-event \u201eViabundus Applied\u201c, organised by our NL-team coordinator Maartje A.B., in which we invited several speakers to give an insight into their application of the Viabundus dataset. This way, he could quite follow the carters in the Hanseatic period he was looking at for his M.A.-thesis at the University of G\u00f6ttingen. As <em><strong>Wouter Loeff<\/strong><\/em> explained to us, it is their aim to create a personal experience with history and for this, viabundus is a great way to connect with the past. This approach was used in schools and museums so far and they hope to expand it even more! a network idea. <em><strong>Yann Ryan<\/strong><\/em> used the data in R and the package sfnetworks and <a href=\"https:\/\/yann-ryan.github.io\/post\/early-modern-routing-with-viabundus-and-sfnetworks\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">came to colourful results<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-5' analytics. With all this data we have to keep in mind that Viabundus\u2019 work is far from complete.
